VidChat (“we”, “our”, “us”) is a free random one-to-one video-chat web app. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using VidChat, you agree to this policy.
Information We Collect
Account information. When you sign in with Firebase Authentication (Google sign-in or email), we receive basic account details such as your name, email address, and profile photo, if provided.
Camera and microphone. Your camera and microphone are used only during an active video call, and only with your permission. We do not access them at any other time.
Matchmaking signaling. To connect you with a random chat partner, we exchange temporary signaling data through Firebase Realtime Database (for example, session offers and answers). This data exists only to set up the call.
Video and audio streams. Video and audio streams are transmitted peer-to-peer using WebRTC directly between you and your chat partner. They do not pass through VidChat servers, and we do not record or store your calls.
User reports. If you report another user (or are reported), we store the report, the reason given, and related account identifiers so our team can review safety issues.
Technical information. We may collect basic technical data such as device type, browser type, and approximate location derived from your IP address, to operate and secure the service.
How We Use Your Information
- To create and manage your account and sign you in.
- To match you with chat partners and set up video calls.
- To keep the platform safe, including reviewing user reports and enforcing our Terms of Service.
- To improve and troubleshoot the service.
- To communicate with you about your account or important changes.
Data Retention
Account information is kept while your account is active. Signaling data is temporary and is removed after a call ends. User reports are kept for as long as needed for safety review and then deleted. If you delete your account, we delete your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we are required to keep it for legal or safety reasons.
Your Rights
You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data at any time. To delete your account and associated data, use the account deletion option in the app or contact us using the details below. We will act on verified requests promptly.
Cookies
We use essential cookies and browser storage (including Firebase session data) to keep you signed in and to make the app work. We do not use advertising cookies. Your browser settings can block or delete cookies, but some features may not work properly without them.
Children’s Privacy
VidChat is a friendly community for everyone. Instead of an age gate, we enforce a strict code of conduct: there is zero tolerance for nudity, sexual content, harassment, or any other misuse of the service, and violations lead to an instant ban. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page and update the “Last updated” date. Continued use of VidChat after changes means you accept the updated policy.
